"Adults with disabilities will experience the lifestyle of their choice."
ACE-IT II is proud to announce the release of "Good Lookin' Man Like Me", a book written and published by Lyle Jackson, brother to Wendell Jackson, a consumer in the ACE-IT II Program. Wendell “Wendy” Jacobson is a true American character. Born with an innate curiosity and a fascination for cars, he was also born with not one but three handicaps (cerebral palsy, osteomyelitis, and epilepsy) and has intrigued many with his unique brand of joie de vivre.
A testimonial to the resilience of the human spirit, a handbook for interpersonal relationships, and a call to compassion for those among us who are disabled, Lyle Jacobson’s debut is a heartwarming journey with a spirit so powerful you can’t help but be forever affected.
Historical and personal experiences in his life highlight some of the unique qualities that have developed in Wendy and give insights into some of the life lessons these qualities teach. Encouraging families and individuals to appreciate and value developmentally disabled people, Jacobson’s inspirational portrayal of his brother is nothing short of joyous. It is true that life is what you make of it, and for Wendy Jacobson, his family has shown that even the most challenging lives can be made into wondrous experiences full of love and connection. The most spiritually uplifting book you will ever read, "Good Lookin’ Man Like Me" will leave you smiling long after you have read the final page.
Our consumers and staff at ACE-IT II recently put together a smashing good runway review of Hollywood-themed attire. Check out the video below and watch us strut our stuff!
It's Prom Time!
On March 25th, 2011, Easter Seals Adult Day Program located in Citrus Heights held a first ever Prom for our consumers with disabilities. Marta Carrera our Site Director had a big day planned; complete with a formal dance, special lunch and even a chocolate fountain! This was an excellent opportunity for people with disabilities to enjoy experiences like their peers.
Consumers and staff are working hard to get ready for the big dance...but there is always time for a photo opp!
Thank you to all of the teachers from St. Francis High School who volunteered at ACE-IT I and helped us prepare for our Prom. Everyone had a blast and we can't wait to see you again!
There is Julie..... Julia.... and the ACE IT II Culinary Arts!
Julie and Julia are two women who are from different times and space; both are looking for something meaningful and discover a passion for cooking and baking. The ACE IT II Culinary Arts have taken up torch and are discovering the fearlessness and delight for the kitchen. We are discovering new recipes like the “Chewy Cranberry Oatmeal Cookie” which we have prepared and tested. We learned to work with measurements both dry and wet. Then we did a presentation in true Julia Childs fashion in our ACE IT II Program under the direction of Lorisha Wallace, Core Instructor. It was a huge success!
So often we think of challenges and obsticles in our lives as a negative thing, when in fact, the most innovative and important ideas arise from them. If one looks back at the things that have tested them, they will often finf that they have become stronger and more empowered because of these perceived "problems". Click here to read a short article entitled "A Wonderful Life" by Kathie Snow, and see how you are changing lives everyday!
