Easter Seals Superior California's Adult Day Services provide unique training opportunities for adults with developmental disabilities that focus on increasing each person's level of independence through a variety of teaching and training methods. The focus of the ACE-IT III program is on the development of functional skills related to individual needs and greater access to the community. Individual goals can be in the areas of vocational, fine arts, performing arts, domestic, recreational/leisure, general life skills, independent living skills, socialization skills and having the opportunity to be a part of the community. Presently, the program serves 68 consumers, with 24 staff, and 2 buses to help transport people within the community and beyond. The program continues to expand to meet the needs of many different people. For example, many people attending the program work and have their own apartment. The ACE-IT III program uniquely tailors the services it offers to each individual, and to what they desire and need.
"Adults with disabilities will experience the lifestyle of their choice."
The High Hand Gallery is having the Artful Bra exhibition for breast cancer awareness this month.
Our tour of the High Hand Gallery was better than any other gallery we have ever toured with the exception of Crocker Art museum and the foundry.
Out of respect for the artists we asked if we could take pictures. We took our time walking through the serene settings in the gardens and took even more pictures. There were so many creative and inventive ideas for yard art.
We ate a delightful lunch and enjoyed the wild sparrows and the cool mist in the courtyard. I would recommend anyone visiting this very upscale gallery. What a memory for all of us…
SELF ADVOCACY AT ACE IT I
On May 8, 2012, Easter Seals ACE IT III traveled from Yuba City down to Sacramento to give ACE-IT I a power point presentation to help empower our People First of California Self Advocacy Group. Our consumers brought information on the Lanterman Act and how to advocate with our elected government officials. The Lanterman Act was passed into law in 1969 giving people with developmental disabilities and their families the right to receive services and the support they need.
ACE-IT III is just trucking along this month in preparation!!!
One group is currently engaged in a pinterest idea; melting crayons with a heat tool. The bright beautiful colors are fabulous!
John H. is working on his first self portrait as he is using a mirror to capture his own features and add a few of his own ideas. He is quite the artist. John will have several pieces to exhibit in competition this year at the Yuba Sutter fair. Others are painting their frames for their paper collages such as this beautiful one by Arlene!
We are going to be participating in “Lavender fields” at the beautiful Bayless Ranch on June 2nd. Two of our artists will be demonstrating while at the art show. It will be held from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm. The art below is also currently for sale in our fine arts studio!
We will be offering scratch art sun catchers to the children at this year’s Very Special Arts festival held on May 18th at the Elks lodge in Marysville.
July 19th - Easter Seals will be represented at the State Fair

It has been an exciting week here at Ace-it-III! It was brought to my attention by a former employee of Ace-it-III that the Yuba City Police Station was interested in having a room painted for their younger victims. We gladly accepted this opportunity to do so. We painted a full mural all around the room. Our clients who were involved were really excited about this. On the second day the investigations sergeant Brian Baker bought lunch for us and let us eat with on duty police officers. My group really really loved doing this, they talked and talked and talked. The best thing about this experience is we get to go to a city councle meeting and be reconginzed by the police department. I believe this is going to be a really good boost for these clients, they need it and deserve it. We were also told that acouple of them my stop by to help us set up our haunted house and that they are sending as many as they can get to view the haunted house to help support us. Everyone at the Police department were very nice and may have us back again in a different department to do some more work!
Yuba Sutter Fair Awards 2011
With the sluggish economy impacting everything even entertainment these days we are very surprised but pleased to announce that our artists earned a screaming $170.00 in cash awards from Yuba Sutter fair along with several 1st , 2nd and 3rd place ribbons in multiple categories; and one reserved best of show.
You know that it feels great to know that our artists’ work is so well accepted in the art community due to the fact that the judges are artists themselves and we do not enter our clients as disabled artists. We want their art to be included and not segregated; and we want them to be recognized for their abilities.
The Artists’ don’t care how much or how little their checks are because they are winners!!! That’s all that matters to them and me. “Their accomplishments are our accomplishments” We are very proud of all of them.
This is our 11th annual awards ceremony and we had over 50 participating artists who were awarded participation ribbons for their artistic endeavors on Thursday. It is very important to us to make sure that they know how much we appreciate them and that without them none of this would be possible. On Friday they took home their 1st, 2nd and 3rd place ribbons.
ACE-IT III would like to thank everyone who came out to see the Talent Show. It was a rousing success!! We had great attendance and it seemed that so many of you enjoyed out “blast from the past”. I am so very proud of our performers as well as the staff that helped to make the show AMAZING! For those of you that were unable to make it, we will have DVDs available soon. Keep an eye out details next week!!
Thanks again to all of you that made the “TREK” to Yuba City! :.)
This is our 11th year entering art and crafts in competition at our local Yuba Sutter Fair. We have over 50 clients entering projects such as ceramics, textiles, (Bark) wood painting, recycled picture frames turned into Terrariums, glass and turquoise jewelry, duct tape purses, glass candle sconces, and foam Rooster & Hens. Last but not least, framed art of many mediums. Our annual open house/awards ceremony is scheduled for August, 11th at 10:30 to honor the artists for their accomplishments. We are very fortunate to have art therapy as one of the components at ACE-IT-III.
ACE-IT III Summer Stroll 2011
The summer stroll was awesome for the clients whom participated; they sold over $150.00 worth of items and they ate BBQ foods, danced to the music and enjoyed the cooler temperature. They utilized our cool new tool, Quick Books point of sale. (P.O.S.) in which we will be using from now on. Thanks to Gary K. for approving it, it makes things run so much faster and smoother.
The Very Special Arts festival
The Very Special Arts Festival was hosted by the Yuba Sutter Regional Arts Council and was held Friday, May 20th at the Notre Dame School in Marysville. It was a bundle of fun filled events for the children.
Our table was one of several table activities offered. It was sun catcher scratch art, try to say that three times real fast… it was a hot item. All the teachers and parents were asking where we bought them. My answer was “NASCO catalogue”. Two of our clients ( Michelle.R and Janet.N ) helped with assisting the little ones with the scratch art project.
All the children seemed to have no trouble using their hand to eye coordination and dexterity skills while getting a big surprise watching the bright colors come through after their labor of scratching off the black paint. It was so rewarding watching them explore their creative side. I even reaped the rewards of getting the longest sweetest hug from one of the patrons. Made my day!!! Other activities included, face painting, making caterpillars out of egg cartons, making flowers out of coffee filters, making bug antenna hats, stepping stones and last but not least Home Depot donated potting soil and flowers for them to plant in the flower pots.
There was a juried art exhibit of ceramics, terra cotta pot art, flowers and corn fields made out of beans and paper and all sorts of interesting things that the children made in school. The children had their very own performance which included dancing, music and demonstrations of what it takes to grow a garden. They were spectacular.
Carls Jr. in Marysville, donated condiments for the hamburgers for their lunches. Jeff “former peace officer of Yuba County volunteered to DJ for VSA and there were high school students that volunteered their time setting up the event and cleaning up after. It was a great place to have the VSA festival this year thanks to Kelly and Lillie at the arts council. They did a lot of work planning and coordinating the event.
Starry Starry Night
Kari Swartzke manager at Umpqua Bank (located at 571 5th street in Lincoln) and Linda Baugh an associate of the bank, hosted an exhibit for ACE-IT III February, 8th through March, 8th. Linda Baugh assisted the set up of the exhibition; the opening reception and taking it all down. Her and her husband Meryl Baugh composed a DVD with music from Don McClain entitled “Starry Starry Night” This song was used during an exhibition for the master himself “Vincent Van Gogh”
There were 27 fine arts pieces exhibited for ACE-IT III and 7 sold during the opening reception and the 8th piece sold on the closing day. Total sales for this exhibit was $230.00! Linda Baugh and the manager of Umpqua Bank reported that in the history of the bank having exhibitions ours had the most sales.
What an honor…
The above video was composed by Merle and Linda Baugh, who's daughter attends ACE-IT III.
