Committee on Disabilities and Inclusion

There is a newly formed group called the “Committee on Disabilities and Inclusion” that is sponsored by the Jewish Federation of the Sacramento Region. Last February they hosted a series of programs in honor of “Jewish Disability Awareness Month.”

On Sunday, August 14th, they are hosting a social get-together from 10am to noon (modeled after the “Southside Park Play Dates” that usually take place on Saturday mornings). Below have attached a flyer that explains the details. It is open to individuals and families in the Jewish community of ALL abilities. As you can see from the flyer, we have partnered with Access Leisure/City of Sacramento, as well as WarmLine Family Resource Center.

Please help me by spreading the word about this program. Let your clients know, post the flyer in clinics, etc. Thank you SO much!

If you are a fan of Tedtalks check out this lecture.  She gives a 20 minute lecture explaining how she processes information and gives insight on how she believes people on the spectrum can be integrated into the community.  Click on the image above to watch the lecture.

peds_samuelIncluding Samuel

Before his son Samuel was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, photojournalist Dan Habib rarely thought about inclusion of people with disabilities. Now he thinks about inclusion every day. Shot and produced for over four years. Habib's award-winning documentary file, Including Samuel, chronicles the Habib family's efforts to include Samuel in every faucet of their lives. The film honestly portrays his family's hopes and struggles as well as the experiences of four other individuals with disabilities and their families. Including Samuel is a highly personal, passionately photographed film that captures the cultural and systemic barriers to inclusion.
